360Portugal - Portugal seen by a portuguese

Sabugal is a good example of a walled town that served, at the end of the Middle Ages, as a shelter for the murdered. The layout of the fence surrounding the town is easily reconstructed through the small sections that survive.
The importance of Sabugal was linked, in medieval times, to the crossing of the Côa River by a stone bridge. Next to it, there was an altar with two old wooden saints, sacred entities of the paths that led to the village.
