Saha Air’s Persian Beauty – the Boeing B707-300 from Theran to Mashhad

Saha Air was known all over the world for its long lasting B707 operations. Therefore a whole generation of enthusiasts travelled to the Islamic Republic of Iran only to witness this beauty. And only a few days after my flights on this legend, Saha Air ceased all operations.

Sometimes the amount of preparation and the work going into such a plane safari seem huge and often hardly worth it. Either the aircraft gets changed, or the sun is bad, windows are scratched or fogged, or the foto and film equipment just won’t work. But in the case of the joyride on Saha Air, everything turned out even better than one could dream off.

Not only that the seat was just perfect, the sun was in the right spot and crew and passengers were really friendly, but also the routing was perfect. It lead the B707 past Mount Damavand, Iran’s highest peak. Together with the sound, the engines and the beautiful mountain in the back this magic flight turned out to be one of a lifetime. The service aboard was perfect, as with all Iranian airlines!

After one and a half hours the B707 touched down smoothly in Mashhad, including reverse thrust, which was a great thing to experience. So this is probably the last movie of a B707 in regular passenger service, and therefore already a piece of historic documentation, unfortunately!
