What's it like to sail on Greenland's coastal ferry? In this video, I take you down the west coast of Greenland on the humble Sarfaq Ittuk, the twice weekly mail ship that connects Ilulissat in the north with Qaqortoq in the far south of the country.

Beginning in Ilulissat, I board the Danish territory's signature red ferry for an exciting two night trip down the rugged coastline and icy waters of the world's largest island to the capital city of Nuuk. I paid just $275 USD for the two night voyage in a 4berth compartment (dorm bed), with access to a movie room, several sightseeing lounges, showers, and an onboard restaurant with meals starting at around $5 USD. Along the way, I enjoyed amazing views of Greenland's remote Arctic coastline as we made our way south towards the capital.

Halfway down our route, I had the opportunity to explore Greenland's second largest city of Sisimiut during a 90 minute station stop, before heading further south to the tender port of Kangaamiut, one of the most scenic villages on the west coast. The next morning, I arrived in the bustling capital of Nuuk (one of the fastest growing municipalities on Earth) to begin my exploration of the nation's capital (check out next week's video for a full tour of Nuuk).
