One of the greatest cases of a man full of avidity for theological word and will for its transference throughout the population is Saint Maximus the Confessor. He lived and acted during an era in which many and great heresies still existed and the continuing clashes between them and the one, true and Orthodox Church many times created little "schisms", which often were present in a political level as well.

During those turbulent times, Saint Maximus was called to be a "beacon" of Orthodoxy for the population, not only of Constantinople, but that of the West as well, in which he made a great effort against the heretics. He was targeted than by them though, and after a number of persecutions, arrests and exiles, he finally finds his place of rest in Pontos, leaving behind him a great amount of work, which became the basis of theological thought for the next years but is also considered the continuation of the great Fathers of the Church.

Saint Maximus the Confessor, is for us a fine example of faith and persistent struggle for the designation of the one and only truth in turbulent times. Without the danger of persecutions nowadays, our will for the designation of the truth must be our beall and endall, just like it was for this great Saint of our Church.
