Last weekend I had the privilege of listening to the versatile and highly talented Barnali Chattopadhyay as she sang a traditional dadra in thumri ang. She stunned us with her crystal clear notes, her ada and bhav. It was an absolutely captivating performance. Bhajan Samrat Anup Jalota (not featured in this video) graciously accompanied Barnali with his amazing dexterity on the harmonium. He later regaled us with some treasures from his repertoire. This dadra was featured as a song in the 1978 hit "Main Tulsi Tere Aangan Ki" rendered by Shobha Gurtu under the baton of Laxmikant Pyarelal. The composition is based on Raag Maanjh Khamaj.
