In 2023 Modern Drummer visited Staind drummer Sal Giancarelli and drum tech Mark Bennett at the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Hollywood, Florida. They gave us a detailed rundown of Sal's Mapex Saturn Evolution Series drums, along with all the tools and gear required for the Staind gig.

This was filmed prior to the death of original Staind drummer Jon Wysocki. Jon passed away on May 18th, 2024. In a statement on Instagram regarding the loss of his friend, Sal Giancarelli wrote: “Truly Thankful, to be a part of Jon’s life for 12 years. MANY incredible memories were made in that time. My heart hurts……….. My deepest sympathies for his family, his friends, his band mates in Lydia’s Castle and to Aaron Lewis, Mike Mushok, and Johnny April.
His beats, his ability to create ‘Drum Hooks’, his contribution to Music, and especially to the drumming community, will never be forgotten.”
