Known affectionately as "Toto", Schillaci won the Golden Boot for being the top scorer at the 1990 FIFA World Cup hosted on home soil, scoring six goals and helping his country to a third place finish. Schillaci's winning goal in the quarter final of Italia '90 knocked out the Republic of Ireland, who were appearing in their firstever World Cup finals, ending the Boys in Green's bestever finish in a major soccer tournament.
