Sandos Playacar Walk Around & Review, Playa del Carmen, Mexico 4K

Sandos Playacar is an allinclusive resort about 1 hour from Cancun. It is a large resort resort with 819 rooms.

The resort is lengthy vertical to the beach, with a lot of uninteresting paved pathways and a tram to take you to the beach. Some hidden away paths offer a jungle like atmosphere, but they don’t lead anywhere.

The lobby is large and isn’t crowded. Check in is pretty simple as they have a lot of staff on hand. Unfortunately, the Sandos resorts rely on an app that you must download to reserve any restaurants. You will note that a lot of the restaurants are booked solid and the app does not work as intended.

The lobby bar was not attended to, and it appeared closed.

The Main Buffet is very good with a variety of food choices that sometimes switch around depending on the day of the week. There are many choices here from fresh Chinese food, BBQ Meats, Mexican Dishes, Pasta and more. The Main Buffet is large, so you will find most anything here and almost all food was fresh and tasty.

The pools are clean, but are not as large as you would expect. They do have swim up bars, but they are understaffed and very crowded.

There is a small children’s waterpark and a small pool for elite members. Upgrades at Sandos Resorts is how they make a lot of money. Depending on the time of year, upgrades can run $60400 per night for a better room, access to special restaurants and private pools.

The beach is soft white sand that stretches for miles. But there is limited beach chairs so prepare to reserve a spot early.

This beach has been getting sea weed washing up as of late due to changes in sea temperatures worldwide and because of changes and construction along the coasts of Mexico diverting sea weed to places where it normally does not wash up.

Overall this is an average resort with limited activities. They main activity listed is minigolf. It does have a decent coffeeshop called The Cupcake Cafe, and above average food quality and selection. Most rooms are above average, but standard rooms are sometimes reported as in poor condition.

As a resort, it seemed pretty boring. It felt more like a hotel, then a resort. Prices are sometimes average to high, and I would suggest that if you don’t get a smoking deal, look at other resorts nearby.

We give this resort 3.5 stars out of five overall.
