ABOUT SATURN AS A 'GRAHA' ('SHANI DEVA')

Astronomically, Saturn is the planet that is almost at the end of the solar system. Yes there are other planets that come beyond it but they're much further away in proportion to the inner planets one the other side of the asteroid belt and then the gas super giants that are Jupiter and Saturn.

In the solar system, Saturn actually plays a huge rule in protecting the Earth from vagrant asteroids that can smash into it and end all life. Saturn's gravitation is in many ways a protective shield for the inner solar system.

In 'Vedic' astrology, Saturn or 'Shani' is the planet of hard work, struggle, stamina, resilience, business and discipline.

Saturn can be a very restrictive planet as it teaches through difficulties and often gives the native many problems in the area of life represented by the house that Saturn sits in. This is why most people hope to have Saturn in a good placement and giving good results otherwise they fear bad things might happen to them. At the very least, with a tough Saturn placement, people expect a tough life.

See 'Shani' is the 'deva' of justice and order. That is why it is famously said "Saturn delays but never denies."

SATURN IN SECOND HOUSE OF BIRTH CHART

When Saturn is placed in the second house, it is in the place of a friend since second house corresponds to the natural sign of 'Taurus', which is ruled by Venus who is friends with Saturn.

However, since the second house is a very important house in terms of all practical matters of finances, nourishment, eyesight, teeth, family, fixed assets, family lineage and values and Saturn is well slow, steady and 'frugal' in nature unlike Venus who is luxurious, all inclusive and generally indulgent, this placement becomes tough to channel in the native's dealings in all manners of finances, savings and wealth.

The planet in the second house is usually quite helpful to the individual's values, assets and finances. Saturn here brings a challenge and 'lack' in these areas in order to force the individual to work harder for these things.

What do I mean by that?

I mean that if you have let's say the North node 'Rahu' in the 2nd, then it naturally lends a drive and motivation to take action and develop the significations of the 2nd house.
Similarly let's say you have Sun in 2nd house, it makes you quite confident and courageous wrt your expression and interactions with others and the relationship with your family of birth, your assets and a natural 'confidence' in voicing your opinions.

Similarly, Saturn placed in the second is lending a lot of his qualities to the individual's ''management' of assets, wealth and self worth while also challenging him with Saturn's own weaknesses such as slowness, struggle, lack and frustration.

All in all, this means the individual has to often struggle for the basics of life. Like the basics of food, shelter and clothing! (unless there are helpful aspects by Venus or Jupiter).

However this doesn't mean that it is necessarily harmful or bad. In fact, a lot of famous and highly successful, rich people in the world have Saturn in the second house. If you study them however, or if you study their lives.. you will find a lot of Saturnian patterns of 'lack', conflict or struggle in some way, when it comes to management of their resources.

These people learn from the struggles of life how to be frugal and create more with less.
