The Ferrel family was just 15 miles from home when they received a notification from a Vivint Smart Home monitoring rep saying their smoke detector was going off. Vivint notified the local fire department and sent them to investigate. The house was indeed on fire and the fire department was there and working on the fire before the neighbors even realized there was a fire.
