This film is about a shack settlement, located 2 hours north of Perth called Wedge Island. A bit like stepping back in time, Wedge island has no power, no running water, and no shops. But what Wedge Island does have is a vibrant, tightknit community. This documentary explores the history of the community and their way of life at Wedge Island which has evolved over 70 years. The film reflects a lifestyle that has all but disappeared elsewhere in Western Australia and follows the lives of a few locals who tell the story of its unique sense of place. But it’s not all sunshine and rainbows. Since 1987 and the implementation of the state government's squatter policy, Wedge Island has been under constant threat to be demolished according to state law. This film explores their fight to stand up against this bureaucratic policy in order to save their unique community.
