In a pivotal scene, Dewey (Jack Black) is in his element, passionately leading his students through an impromptu rock session, their music filling the halls with energy and excitement. "School of Rock" follows Dewey Finn, a downonhisluck rock musician who impersonates his roommate to take a job as a substitute teacher at a prestigious prep school. Initially planning to use the paycheck to settle his debts, Dewey discovers his students' musical talents and hatches a plan to form a rock band with them to compete in the Battle of the Bands. As he secretly teaches the kids about rock 'n' roll history, theory, and performance, Dewey helps them find confidence and express themselves while rediscovering his own passion for music. Along the way, he must dodge suspicion from the school's principal, Mrs. Mullins, and win over skeptical parents.
