In this 7minute video, it discussed Genetically Modified Organism and its purpose in food and medicine. It also talked about the three types of gene modification and these are traditional crop modification, genetic engineering, and genome editing. Also, the production of GMO was discussed and it was summarized in nine steps. The production begins by identifying the gene interest, then isolation of the gene interest, and amplifying it to produce many copies, and so on until it reaches the last step which is the integration of genes into the recipient genome. Moreover, the video included the differences between genetic engineering and traditional breeding. The video also tackled the advantages and disadvantages of GMO such that it is beneficial in producing medicines, improving crops, and allowing more profit. However, it may also cause health risk, environmental risk, and it is also a threat to biodiversity and the autonomy of farmers who wish to produce non genetically modified products. Additionally, it discussed the sociopolitical relevance of GMO. The video concluded that GMOs benefit mankind when used for purposes such as increasing the availability and quality of food and medical care, and contributing to a cleaner environment. If used wisely, they could result in an improved economy without doing more harm than good, and they could also make the most of their potential to alleviate hunger and disease worldwide.
