Scissors Restoration [Remove Rust With Lemon - Black Handle - Polished Blade]

Follow
Forgotten Shine Restoration

When restoring these old rusty scissors I tried to use simple techniques and machines. The derusting I have made for example with lemons, so just squeezed lemons and poured the juice over the scissors. The citric acid dissolves the rust super, whether it worked for me, you can see in the video! In this project I also milled, but what you can also file or saw. Turning on the lathe can also be replaced by buying a screw. I also welded, hardened, drilled, tapped, polished, painted, nickel plated, sanded and more. I purchased these antique rusty scissors from a flea market internet site. Please be sure to also note that this video is not just to quickly show someone how something works, but also to relax and escape from the daily grind!

▶ What did I do ?! ◀

The scissors were badly rusted and I wanted to try if citric acid could remove the rust, so I squeezed the lemons and poured the lemon juice over them. After that, I drilled the old screw out of the scissors since it wouldn't come off. I then filed and sanded the scissors, drilled and retapped the thread. Then I hardened the two scissor parts in the hardening furnace and tempered them in the furnace three times for an hour. The old scissors were then polished back to their "forgotten shine" on the polishing bench and the handles were painted with black spray paint. To protect the blades of the scissors from future rust, I nickel plated them in nickel electrolyte. Finally, I turned a new screw and nut on the lathe. This I treated with cold burnishing, so that the rust has no chance there too.
