We examine the Scout combat playstyle as suggested by highlevel players. We also have data from the DRG community to help us understand this playstyle in more detail.

Scout suggested playstyle:

Primarily focus on HVT’s (high value target), ignoring most other threats if you can. Spend your time lighting, dropping utility and most importantly actively scanning for HVT’s. Try not to get bogged down on the horde or LST’s (large single targets) unless you absolutely need to.

Q) What is the HVT threat order? A) This was highly debated with not everyone in agreement but in general it was: Shellback (if not in a hole stuck somewhere); Acid Spitter; Trijaw; Menace; Goo bomber; Warden (if buffing nearby units threatening the team); Web spitter; Grabber; All Mactera types.

Q) You didn’t really cover the “All round combat Scout”, any extra details? A) This playstyle concept involves the Scout being able to go solo and not need to rely on other players. This makes it obviously great for solo play or when you work on an objective or lure enemies away from the group. Basically, you should be able to handle everything the game throws at you, but you may well be slightly reducing your ability to deal with HVT’s as well as you could if you had specialised.

Q) What is the best build for taking on HVT’s? A) That is a great question and one that causes tons of debate! The easy answer is one that has good break points or time to kill on HVT’s. The highlevel players in my research group nearly all use the M1000. Active Stability System for its speed and breakpoints on Acid spitters and Trijaws. But there are plenty of options to experiment with. I recommend you go and watch some Scout footage from LittleBobbyTables , AssemblyStorm or Virryn to get an idea of the builds they use.
