SCRAPPED. The last remaining BA 747 sent for UK breakup in 2020 is now gone. G-CIVN. December 2023.

Heathrow Aircraft - past and present.

GCIVN holds the sad distinction of being one of the first of the British Airways 747 fleet to be taken out of service at the start of the COVID pandemic in 2020 and being the last 747 (of the huge number that were sent for scrapping across the UK during 2020) to remain intact until this month (December 2023) when it was finally broken up at Kemble Cotswold.

The aircraft first flew for British Airways in September 1997 and was configured as 14 F / 52 J / 36 WTP / 235 Economy.
The aircraft flew to Kemble Cotswold on 16th April 2020, as flight BA 9154, in the height of the first COVID lockdown, where for more than 18 months it was stored on the taxiway alongside the A419, giving motorists a really close up view.
This short film charts the gradual decay of this aircraft following its' withdrawal; having been filmed by me on several occasions during these 3 final twilight years. I've also included a clip showing GCIVN in action, departing Heathrow Runway 09R in the wake of storm Oscar in November 2018, with a strong gusting crosswind very evident in the "crabbing" on takeoff.
