Searching For Gold Veins/Ore Deposits In A Gold Belt

Follow
GeoForge

I searched around local gold mines in a gold zone in search of mineral/vein deposits that could potentially hold gold and other minerals in them. I searched through tailings, and near by bed rock for gold bearing quartz and rock.

Geology The surrounding rock is made up of sedimentary rocks with multiple smaller faults and larger faults cutting through the area. Most of the gold is being found in veins along a large thrust fault. There area also igneous intrusions here and there that may be associated with the gold deposits. Breccia from the thrust fault, along with other quartz veins and faults are a source of gold ore.

The breccia I found contains many small quartz crystals and druzzy. Pyrites can be found along small fractures and microfaults and along the bedding planes of the sedimentary rock. Sphalerite mineralization is also common.

The area has been heavily worked and mining still continues. Most of the gold left will be lode.
