Secrets of ancient Conimbriga | Portugal | Roman ruins

360Portugal - Portugal seen by a portuguese

Conimbriga is a living portrait of a very long period of humanity, from the Copper Age to medieval times. The ruins that we can see today show houses, gardens, mosaics, the baths, the Forum, and its imposing walls that gave it the title of high, rocky and fortified place. The organization of society, and portraits of life itself over the centuries are evident here. Here lived peoples from various parts of central Europe, each people with their spoken (not written) language and the only common denominator between them would be the Latin brought by the Romans, which allowed understanding between all, and which served as unification and development .
One of the first public works carried out in the Roman city of Conimbriga in the time of Augustus (1510 BC) was the construction of an aqueduct to supply the city from Alcabideque, which is 3km away.
