Sepsis is a Metabolic Disease

Sepsis is a significant hazard to human health; 270,000 adults in the US die each year from sepsis.
The definition of sepsis is vague and is not grounded in biology.
Metabolic changes in the blood of sepsis patients provide clues for treatment targets, but this response is highly heterogeneous.
To solve the problem of sepsis, tailor therapies that improve host bioenergetics.
