Serbia, with Belgrade as its vibrant capital, is home to 6.9 million souls in a territory of 88,361 km². Nestled in the heart of the Balkans, Serbia has a rich history and culture. Its official language is Serbian, and its currency is the Serbian dinar (RSD). The Orthodox religion predominates, with Muslim and Catholic minorities. It is not part of the European Union, but aspires to be.
With a population density of 78 inhabitants per km², the population is concentrated in cities such as Belgrade, Novi Sad and Niš. The ethnic majority is Serbian, with Hungarian, Bosnian and Gypsy minorities. Serbian culture is very strong and defined with Serbian as its emblem, a language also spoken in several neighboring countries.
4.8% of Serbian women married a foreigner in recent years. The most common countries of origin of happy foreign spouses of Serbian women are: Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Italy and Slovenia.
For their part, Serbian women prefer to emigrate to these same countries, that is: Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Italy and Slovenia. The main reasons are the search for better economic opportunities and a better standard of living.
The swaying anatomies swarm around us, the streets of Serbia are a true feast for the eyes.
These days the main concerns of Serbs are: the economy, corruption, unemployment, the situation in Kosovo and the future of the European Union.
As for Serbia's friendly countries, they are: Russia and Belarus, with whom it shares a strong Slavic and Orthodox culture, China, Greece and the countries of the former Yugoslavia. As for enemies, there is no defined enemy, but relations with NATO and some countries in the European Union can be tense.
Serbia finds itself in a complex geopolitical situation. It aspires to join the European Union, but maintains a close relationship with Russia. The situation in Kosovo is also a delicate issue that puts it directly in conflict with NATO countries.
Serbia's economy is in transition, with moderate growth in recent years. Unemployment remains a major problem, but Serbs are confident that choosing their own development path can only bring benefits to the future of the population.
Regarding migration, 2.8% of the workforce in 2023 is made up of foreign workers, mainly from: China, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Montenegro, North Macedonia and Albania.
