Happy 90th, James Earl Jones! The Voice (Darth Vader, CNN, Mufasa) had a craving for a good oldfashioned egg cream (recipe link below) and luckily landed at Mr. Hooper's (Will Lee) in Episode 1148 (April 5, 1978; Season 9) of the best darn kids show ever. I'm guessing his driver didn't have any trouble finding it (Richard Hunt cameo).

FUN CELEB TRIVIA: James was the first celebrity literally on The Street in 1969 when he traumatized children with his alphabet and counting skills (linked below), whereas Carol Burnett's inserts were taped in Hollywood, not on the show. He also studied acting as a student under Will Lee (Mr. Hooper) before the show even started, so he has Street cred. He didn't quite get the whole Muppet thing, though, and told Matt Robinson (Gordon at the time) that "this Muppet business has got to go, kids will be terrified." Must have been humbling to host 1979's "A Walking Tour of Sesame Street" for their 10th anniversary :)

This ep is also notable for the debut of the letter D cartoon (dig, deep, dinosaur) which I don't recall at all. Weird. As well as the "Disco D" song, the Dog Cheer cartoon, and Ernie Prepares for a Flood at the Library. Some nice stuff here with Down Syndrome and special needs kids helping Maria (Sonia Manzano) fix a wagon, do gymnastics at Mamaroneck CoOp Camp, and the D is for Doggie segment with Cookie Monster (Frank Oz) and Jason (Jason Kingsley).
