The day has finally arrived! We slip the lines in Portimao for the last time and point Olli on a heading of 207 degrees directly at Lanzarote in the Canary Islands, where we will be spending the winter exploring the Archipelago.
Our journey is not without incident however. Among other things, the weather and swell do not play ball, resulting in the loss of our boom! The preventer we attached and a strong gust of wind from a passing squall ripped it in half, leaving us without a main sail for the remainder of the trip…
Far too much happened to us to squeeze it all into one episode, so this is only part one of the whole trip – the remainder of the journey and the events therein will be revealed in the next episode.
