Stick in an old VHS one day, and you might get one of these funny little things: BBFC certificate warnings, as spoken here by Simon Bates of Radio 1. Well, he used to be on Radio 1. Apparently, he resigned from the station for fear of being fired. (What's the difference? He lost either way.)

Anyway, after that, he voiced these warnings from the VSC (Video Standards Council) in order to tell us all about film classification. But even though everyone probably skipped through this along with the horde of trailers before it, as these were found only on rental tapes they still kept on appearing, and have stood the test of time. Well, until they died out in 1994, anyway.

But I always had to sit through these. And the weird child in me actually sort of enjoyed them. I was into a lot of odd things as a child, and this was one of them. Anything on a VHS tape always piqued my interest, for some reason. So, in a little way, Mr. Simon Bates and his sexual swear words will forever remain a part of my childhood.
