Essentially, from what I'VE learned about the "Cartoon Effect" (I made that up, I don't know if that's an actual name for something) is that the character can walk on air as long as they don't notice they're not walking on anything. Once they do, they usually try to run back to safety, when they run they kind of go up a bit, then fall down with the GForce to rip your heart out of your butt.
