Congress MP Shashi Tharoor criticised the Interim Budget on February 7, 2024. He argued that the government's approach to "trickledown economics" involves spending money at the top level by increasing capital expenditure annually. Tharoor further explained that the NDA (National Democratic Alliance) provides no data to reveal the true situation of poverty and consumption in the country, leading to a statistical void that makes it difficult to judge the poverty situation. He called for a "midcourse correction", stating that the income of the middle class, lowermiddle class, and poor has declined over the last 10 years of the government.
