Airdate: June 24, 1967

I’m puttin’ on my MonkeeShades and headed down to NuPike this afternoon. Who’s with me?

This contest was posted on YT a few years ago on @RockShorts, but here is the contest AND the winners….Liver Favela, Bud Schwimmer, Sandy…and Flipper? Couple #3, at the top of the riser are Bandstand regulars Forrest Hutchins and JoAnne Edmonds. Famous Hooks can also be spotted dancing in the crowd (I am required by law to have Famous in all of my clips, lol)

Buddy Schwimmer went on to become a successful choreographer and created the dance known as the “Nightclub TwoStep” (aka “California TwoStep”). His son Benji won first place on the 2006 season of “So You Think You Can Dance”. Olivia “Liver” Favela became the drummer for the band “Birtha” in 1968.

Ops N’ Pops were a colorful brand of PaperMate Pens that were decorated with groovy patterns. Anyone have a set of Ops N’ Pops pens?

Every Mother’s Son’s biggest hit, “Come On Down To My Boat”, is at #11 today and will peak at #6 in 2 weeks.

And speaking of boats, NuPike will be renamed “Queens Park” next year (1968) in honor of The Queen Mary being permanently docked in Long Beach, CA. (The Queen Mary is a fun place to visit around Halloween). The park was closed in 1979.

“I Can See Clearly Now” and “Jump” are two of the greatest songs of all time. RIP Johnny Nash and Eddie Van Halen.

Thank you for watching!
