Don't fall for this scam in Downtown Mexico! Mexico City Centro has so many scams. This is just one of them... The shoe shine scam.

I had been wearing my white leather Stan Smith Adidas sneaker/trainer shoes, since they are so comfortable. I was walking by and figured I would ask the shoe shine boys for a shine.

I have already had tons of shoe shines in Mexico, and so I know the price. The cost in Mexico City Centro at the shoe shine stands is a flat 25 Pesos, which includes both shoes.

This shoe shiner tried to charge 100 Pesos for each shoe. I had already planned to over tip, and so I made it clear I would give 100 Pesos. I got away with that, and he was thankful but it could have gone the other way. So, watch out. Don't fall for this scam.

The upsell repellent didn't help. My shoes got just as dirty as they would normally afterwards.
