The Affordable Housing Awards were established to highlight the good work being done in the social housing sector.

But the event was called off last year after the death of Awaab Ishak a twoyearold boy whose Rochdale flat exposed him to “extreme” mould.

But the awards are back. And so are the social housing tenants who say now is not the time to celebrate.

Because tens of thousands of social tenants are living with damp and mould and oneinten social homes fail to meet the government’s decent home standard.

More social houses are sold off and demolished each year than new ones are built. There's an acute shortage of housing that’s deepening Britain’s ongoing rent crisis and leaving vulnerable tenants like Fatima with nowhere to go.
