Xeloda is the pill version of 5FU and you take it twice a day. A single dose has no side effects, but over time, side effects like hand and foot peeling, diarrhea, fatigue, sensitivity to sun and on rare occasions heart damage can be present.

The pill version of 5FU is called Capecitabine or Xeloda, it's the same drug, but it's in pill form. You take it twice a day, usually two, three, four pills twice a day, after breakfast, after dinner.

Any single dose that you take, take it, no side effects, zero side effects. A week's worth, generally zero side effects, no real side effects. It's not for a month or so that they start to build up. What you can get is some peeling and cracking on your hands and feet, can get some mouth sores, occasionally some diarrhea. Fatigue is part of it sensitivity to the sun is one of the side effects. Rarely can you get bad GI side effects or bad problems with your bone marrow.

In general, pretty welltolerated medicine. A rare side effect is a heart side effect, so if you are noticing some shortness of breath, pain radiating up into your neck, make sure you tell your doc about that.
