There are many similarities between Serbian and Russian, which are both Slavic languages, so can a Serbian speaker understand someone who is speaking Russian and vice versa? Serbian is classified as a South Slavic language, while Russian is East Slavic. Serbian is the official language of Serbia and one of the official languages of Bosnia and Herzegovina. It is also spoken by the majority of people in Montenegro. Serbian is also recognized as a minority language in Croatia, Macedonia, Romania, Hungary, Slovakia, and the Czech Republic. Russian is an official language in Russia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan and many minor or unrecognized territories. It is an unofficial but widely spoken language in Latvia, Moldova, Ukraine and to a lesser extent, the other postSoviet states. Russian is is the most widely spoken of the Slavic languages by a large margin. In this video we compare some of the similarities between the two languages.
