Sims 2 vs Sims 3 vs Sims 4 Styling Station

Sims 2
In The Sims 2, a Styling Station was added to the game with Sims 2: Open For Business, giving Sims the opportunity to give or receive a makeover. It can be put on residential or community lot. You can even open your own Beauty Salon. When Sims visit a Salon that has this Styling Station, an NPC Stylist will spawn. An NPC on an unowned community lot will have a gold badge in cosmetology, which means they'll be more likely to give a successful makeover. When Sims are having a successful makeover, a partial CAS will open up. Sims can also offer Free Makeovers. Unfortunately, not having enough experience in Cosmetology can result in disastrous makeovers. Sims will have lowered relationship with the Stylist.

Sims 3
With The Sims 3: Ambitions, a Stylist Station was added in the game, that is needed for the new "Stylist" profession. All salons have at least one of these stations. So, when Sims go to a Salon, they can have a Stylist Makeover. Doing this makeover, will purchase a random new outfit. Skilled Stylists will have a better chance of giving successful makeovers that Sims will enjoy. It will costs §175
Stylists have access to clothing and hair options that other Sims cannot easily access.
Sims can also ask any Sim that is on the lot to give them a makeover. The Sim will be dressed in a random new outfit. When Sims do their own makeover, or they offer one to customers when they have a Stylist career. During the makeover, The Sim will appear in a makeover room. This works the same as CAS.

Sims 4
With Sims 4: Get Famous, a Styling Station was added in the game. They are also available at Plumbob Pictures. Sn NPC Stylist can only be found there. At Plumbob Pictures, the Styling Station is used for actors to get ready for their gig. Actors will also need to get into their costume.
The Styling Station can also be used at home. Sims can ask and offer change in hair and makeup to nearby Sims
Sims can offer and ask for makeup from other Sims
The Sim doing the hair and makeup will do few random styles that you can choose to keep by canceling the interaction. The styling station has no associated skill.

Sims can offer a complete change in appearance to other Sims. This will open up CAS, where you can change almost anything, from hair and makeup, to outfits for every clothing category.
