Tarikh Episode 667

In this episode Nikhil Talks about the history of Chewing gum, which has a fascinating history dating back thousands of years. The ancient Greeks chewed mastic gum from the resin of the mastic tree for its medicinal and breathfreshening properties. Similarly, Native American tribes chewed sap from spruce trees.
However, the modern chewing gum industry began in the 19th century. In 1848, John B. Curtis developed and sold the first commercial chewing gum called "State of Maine Pure Spruce Gum." The use of chicle, a natural latex harvested from the sapodilla tree in Central America, became popular in the late 19th century and laid the foundation for the chewing gum we know today.
In 1892, Thomas Adams, an American inventor, used chicle to create the first flavoured chewing gum, which he called Chiclets. This marked the beginning of a booming industry. The popularisation of bubble gum occurred in 1928 with the introduction of Walter Diemer's Double Bubble.
Over the years, various companies have contributed to the evolution of chewing gum, introducing sugarfree and functional gums. Chewing gum's history is not only a tale of innovation but also reflects changing tastes, cultural shifts, and the desire for a refreshing and enjoyable oral experience.
