The 2nd sinking exercise (SINKEX #2) of exercise Rim of the Pacific 2022 (RIMPAC22) happened on July 26, 2022, with the target ship being the decommissioned USS Denver (LPD9). The SINKEX took part in a relatively deep part of the Pacific Ocean near the Hawaiian Islands after the ship had been put through a certified cleaning process, including removing all environmentally harmful material including trash, floatable material, mercury, fluorocarbon and petroleum. USS Denver was an Austinclass amphibious transport dock ship that was commissioned on October 26, 1968 and decommissioned on August 14, 2014. ExUSS Denver was towed out of Pearl Harbor on July 20, 2022 for her last mission deployment.
