Slavic mythology: Polevik the field spirit

In general, many beliefs and acceptances are associated with the grain field. So, until the last century, the division of agricultural crops into "male" and "female" has survived. For example, only men who sowed seed grain in special bags tailored from old trousers sowed grainbread. Thus, they somehow concluded a "sacred marriage" with a plowed field, and no woman at the same time did not dare to attend. But turnips were considered "female" culture. And women sowed it, trying to give the Earth part of their childbearing power. Sometimes people met in the field an old man, plainlooking and very snotty. The old man asked the passerby to wipe his nose. And if the person did not disdain, in his hand suddenly turned out to be a purse of silver, and the old man disappeared. Thus our ancestors expressed a simple idea that the Earth gives generously only those who are not afraid to get their hands dirty. This old man was called Polevik and about him is my today's story.
