This video shows a teardown of a cheap smartphone camera. This camera is so called focusfree camera, it has no moving parts and it is permanently focused into distance (infinity). The camera has an infrared filter in between on lens and CMOS chip. There's a possibility to remove the filter and make the camera sensitive to infrared light. With an infrared LED illumination you could have a homemade night vision.
