Smooth Sailing in Dominica: Flying a Hull off a Wave in the Martinique Passage. This was our first “scare” in our boat, the waves were the largest we have ever seen as we went around the southern tip of Dominica called Scott’s head. We later learned that it is notoriously known for messy seas and strong current. Alex feared that our boat would tip over and Katie held onto the dogs (which we then put safely inside the cabin). After this we learned to time our passages NOT at high noon. We turned around about 13 miles into the passage, anchored for the night and had a bottle of wine.

We then make it safely the next morning to the beautiful Martinique in the town of St. Pierre! Which has a an unfortunate history of a devastating volcanic eruption of Mt. Pele that occurred in 1902. We wished we the proper “wreck diving” PADI certification to see all of the shipped that were at the bottom of the coast here. However, we were able to snorkel a wreck and check out an awesome underwater mermaid sculpture.
