Welcome to another CheckMark adventure in Maui. After watching this video, I realized that watching turtles is about as exciting as watching a chess match. There is lots of waiting and hoping something good is going to happen. Well, here are the best eleven minutes from hours in the water taking lots of video during our recent trip to Maui in early September 2018. This episode is dedicated solely to turtles but I will have another snorkeling video coming out soon with all the other things I saw in the bay.

I admit that there is a reason that they don't have turtle shows at SeaWorld. They really don’t do much except eat and swim from place to place and even that seems to be done in slow motion. Nonetheless, they are one of the main attractions at Kapalua Bay. You would not believe how excited people get when they first see a turtle or how a crowd instantly forms when one comes up on the beach to rest and get warm.

There is just something enchanting about being so close to a wild animal that does not fear you nor minds if you get close to it. In fact, I find that if I set up for a shot, there is a good chance the turtle will come to me for its close up. They seem to be totally comfortable with humans.

I have seen so many turtles in Kapalua Bay that now I go looking for something special. I try to find two or three turtles in close proximity to each other and hope to see some interesting or funny interaction. Generally, the smaller younger turtles are a little more frisky, which is a relative term in a discussion of turtles. The younger turtles seem to initiate interaction but in this video (8:51) you will see an older turtle sneak up behind a youngster and nip it on its tail and it comes flying towards me, narrowly missing running into me.
