Sofia, the capital of Bulgaria, was called Serdika in antiquity and Sredets in the Middle Ages.
The Serdika metro station in the center of Sofia is truly named after "Serdika," which is surprising since the Serdika ruins can be seen there.

Sofia is also a multifaith city, and in the center of the city you can see historic mosques and cathedrals.
