Follow
Science Bits

Biology experiment for students from 1012 years old. Unit: Human Nutrition.
Drinks like cola or lemonade are also called soft drinks. Soft drinks are mostly made up of water and sugar. They also have a little amount of gas, colorants, and flavorings which give each drink their peculiar color and taste. Actually, even the sugarfree soft drinks contain a small amount of sugar.
This Science Bits experiment measure and compare the amount of sugar in a soft drink and a diet (or sugarfree) soft drink.

Experiment: To isolate the sugar found in a soft drink we need to bring them to a boil and wait for all the water to evaporate. The sugar will be left on the bottom of the beaker.

Activity: This experiment is part of a selfcorrected activity that works these learning objectives:
Discover that soft drinks have very high sugar contents.
Know and understand the experimental procedure to measure the amount of sugar present in soft drinks.
Carry out simple calculations of direct proportionality.
