A video showing the construction of an electric Vtwin motor using solenoids as the basis for power, 12 volt solenoids bought on ebay are the basis and the pushrod setup for switching is purely for a mechanical look and not the easiest way to do it but much nicer to look at and great fun to build. The brake is required as a no load situation will tend to run at high speed even at low volts , much easier to control speed this way. Power produced is low and useful for demonstration only.
