SOLVING HIGH REGISTER PROBLEMS - The Usual Suspects - Flute Tube Episode 11

Follow
April Clayton - Flute Tube

Human beings all have the same instincts about how to make a flute high register. We want to tighten up in our throats, mouths, jaw, neck and shoulders, etc, and make the air passageway narrow to get air speed. We also believe as new flute players that the best way to get air speed is to BLOW HARD!! All of this happens instinctively in our bodies, rather than in our brains.

Today we solve the case to get a better high register sound. Open your mouth and throat, relax, make lots of vertical space in your oral cavity for resonance, rely on support and a small aperture for air speed rather than relying on blowing hard.

Exercises mentioned in this video to help achieve these goals are:
Marcel Moyse De La Sonorité 1bis and triplet exercise starting on page 15
Taffanel & Gaubert 17 Big Daily Exercises 1, 2, 6, 12, 14
Marcel Moyse Tone Development Through Interpretation melodies for high register/melodies for all three registers

In private lessons and masterclasses, I have taught HUNDREDS of flute players how to develop a better high register! It is one culprit of flute playing all flute teachers and students must focus on reforming.
