The Boston hardcore scene of the 80's yielded some incredible bands, Jerry's Kids, DYS, SSD, The FU's , The Freeze. Many of them have been on previous episodes of Sonic Lobotomy. At the top of this echelon were Gang Green, and I was happy to finally get them on my show.
Gang Green were the soundtrack to my teenage years. I had the pleasure of seeing them from their earliest incarnation. Back in the day,... I lost a few teeth and got bruised up in many a Gang Green slam pit. They contributed the best material to the classic "Boston not LA" compilation. I witnessed them evolve from breakneck speed punk rockers to a hard rockin' , party band. Their song Alcohol is the best drinking anthem ever written. Lead guitarist / singer, Chris Doherty was always entertaining, and their live shows were mayhem.
Forty years have passed since I first checked out Gang Green,... and over the years, they sporadically re united to put out more music and played more shows. Doherty has had a few set backs over the years, but he has managed to persevere and continue to create great music and put on great performances. The latest incarnation of the band were in top form when they visited the Sonic Lobotomy studios , and they did not fail to deliver the goods. It was an honor to have the mighty Gang Green on my show. We are all fortunate that they are still at it. Long live Gang Green !
