I had discovered Criss this past year and, oh man, it has been a pleasure hearing this guy. Sonny Criss is a monster who is, unfortunately, a pretty obscure player from what I see. Of all the people who were directly inspired by Charlie Parker when he was alive, (Jackie McLean, Sonny Stitt, Sonny Rollins, Phil Woods) Criss is barely mentioned, if at all.
It’s a shame lol. Hopefully this’ll get some people hip to his stuff, check out the rest of the album this song is from, “Mr Blues Pour Flirter”
