Sonny Rollins performs an unaccompanied tenor sax solo on "The Tonight Show" hosted by Bill Cosby after the release of his album "Don't Ask" in 1979.

In a 1979 review in the Boston Phoenix, author James Isaacs cites the air date as "two weeks after his 50th birthday" which would make the airdate September 21st. However, since Rollins was born on 9/7/1930, he had actually just turned 49.

The solo contains numerous quotes, from Brahms' "Lullaby" to Grieg's "Peer Gynt," to standards like "Zing went the Strings of My Heart," "Dizzy Atmosphere," "Ornithology," Good Night, Ladies" "March of the Toys" and ending with "In A Country Garden."
