PS5 Pro’s Missing Feature Shouldn’t Matter and it will come later

https://wccftech.com/playstation5pr...

During the latest episode of the Digital Foundry weekly podcast, John Linnemann reported that, during this year's Tokyo Game Show, he spoke with a Sony representative, asking about any VRR changes to allow LFC, low frame rate compensation. Unfortunately, the representative confirmed that there won't be any changes to the way VRR works over the base model, but they did add that they are aware of the feedback on the matter and may look into making changes in the future. If any change is made, it is expected that they would also be introduced in the base model, although the biggest hurdle to overcome is the 60 Hz output, which prevents LFC from being done well. So, at launch, VRR will continue to be limited to the 48120 Hz range on the PlayStation 5 Pro.

Sony Forces PS+ Premium

https://www.pushsquare.com/news/2024/...

Being the single IP fans most want a return to across its many franchises, the release of Capcom's Dino Crisis as a PS Plus classic should be a joyous occasion. Instead, in an annoying pattern that began with Resident Evil: Director's Cut, it can't be purchased separately, requiring a PS Plus Premium subscription. Oh, and it doesn't have Trophies, either.

PSLS raised this PSA, and it remains unclear why Capcom has opted to go this route, which represents a rare miss for our based Capgod. For whatever reason, the Japanese publisher/developer seems quite shy about adding Trophies to its back catalogue. While the TimeSplitters trilogy initially came to Sony's service without those allimportant gongs, they were eventually added. Yet, if Resident Evil: Director's Cut is anything to go by, we wouldn't get our hopes up in this case. It's been over two years since Capcom's most iconic PS1 title came to the Classics catalogue, and we can't imagine Dino Crisis will be getting special treatment.

Game Prices are Out of Control

In fact, they’re quietly going up – but publishers are being sneaky about it. Many are now locking “early access” behind expensive Ultimate Editions of their games, pushing the price of new releases up to $100 or more. This is a trend we’ve noticed become increasingly common over the past few months, with titles like Dragon Ball: Sparking! Zero and Silent Hill 2 adopting it as recently as last week.

Publishers sell the concept of “early access”, but really you’re paying extra to play on day one. In the case of Bandai Namco’s aforementioned anime battler, it cost $100 to play the game 72 hours earlier than its “official” release date. To be fair, the arena outing’s Deluxe Edition does also include a Season Pass, so you get added value beyond the “early access” – but this is the very definition of upselling, and consumers are showing up in droves.
