I've been using the Sony Xperia 1 VI, Sony's 2024 flagship for three weeks, have taken almost 100GB worth of photos and videos, captured candid shots, and test comparisons against some of the best phones around, including the Xiaomi 14 Ultra, OPPO Find X7 Ultra, Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra and iPhone 15 Pro Max.

After all of this testing, I'm in a great position to reflect on how good, bad, and underbaked the Sony Xperia 1 VI camera really is. Without giving too much away, the macro camera functionality blew me away, and the primary camera photos and videos were solid as a rock. I also loved the telephoto camera with its extended reach, particularly in bright environments. However, Sony's reluctance to lean into computational photography and the Xperia 1 VI's low light performance across its secondary cameras limits how competitive it is for anyone who wants a simplertouse pointandshoot camera phone.
