This video shows the process of me cleaning up this lathe and making sure it is in good operational condition. This would be similar to the process you may use to clean a machine up before a repaint or a rebuilt. The goal here wasn't to do a restoration, but to make sure that everything was working properly and everything was properly lubricated. These old South Bend lathes can run forever with a little regular care. Some of these have been neglected and well loved over the years so there may be wear. I'm not looking to fix any of that here. Just working with what I have. Many parts on this machine were seized up and would not move very well. After a good cleaning and oiling, everything functions very well and the machine is once again able to do what it was intended for.
