360Portugal - Portugal seen by a portuguese

The monastic presence in Roriz is not from now. The name of the locality will originate in the German Topónimo Rodericus. This root is incurred from a document of 1096, where the foundation is given, attributed to D. Toure Sarnão to the wheel of 1070, the "Monastery of Rodoriz". But already in the IX century before the foundation of nationality there would have been a first monacal building.
From the 18th century monastery there remains the Romanesque church that can still be seen in the village. In Santo Tirso image and identity, writes Augusto Pilar that what he currently finds himself five stages of construction, between the 12th century and the thirteenth century. Vegetable and geometric sculptural elements in the abside, of the first constructive stage, and figurative sculpture already at the end of the thirteenth century, are some of the most interesting components. Two figures a masculine and another female symbolize Adam and Eve in the popular imagination, but present a 'clear' intention of fertility, "." And there are still two "precious images" a Saint Lourenço on an hip stone, from the sixteenth or 17th centuries, and a St. Peter in upholstered, sevencentist wood.
St. Peter's monastery of Roriz was masculine, stood in the village and parish of St. Peter, municipality of São Tomé de Negrelos, and belonged to the regular monks of St. Augustine. It was founded in the second half of the eighteenth century, by D. Toure Sardon, mentioned in the "old book of lineages."
1096 seems to be the documentary reference to the existence of this temple, in an exchange of properties between Negrelos, S.Tomé de Negrelos and Monte Cordoba. The work of historians Manuel Real and Pedro Sá indicate that the current temple is a reconstruction of the century. II on a previous one, for seeing stones drawn from the previous construction (figurative capital, ornate frieze of an imposed, two bases).
