Speedgoat 50K 2018 is in the books, wow, what a race! By far the hardest race of my life, and possibly the hardest run of my life. So much vertical running! Karl Metzler, you created an animal in this ultra running race course. I'm not sure I will be back. It simply beats you up, there's no way around that running reality, so so much, really tough terrain. Speedgoat 50k, you did not disappoint when it comes to insane vertical climbing, mixed with rocky footing really the entire way. Tip of the cap to the champ, David Sinclair of VERMONT! Wow, he ran a tough race, and close on his heels was Sage Canaday, followed up by Tim Tollefson. One thing is for certain, Speedgoat 50K draws the best ultra runners in the country, it was an honor to race against them today, even though my race did not pan out well. I'm happy with the fact that I was in contention through about 19 miles, and then the wheels came off. If there ever is a next time, trekking poles is a must, possibly the new model from Ultimate Direction. The Salomon S/Lab Ultras did great, felt in control the entire way, although my left foot did go a little numb again. My Ultimate Direction vest and bladder was perfect, I never felt dehydrated, and in part that was because of the great aid station crews along the way. Overall a fun event Karl Metzler, even if you sent us off into the woods a couple times for no apparent reason except to increase our pain. Speedgoat 50K, frankly, I'm not sure I"ll be back, but it was fun while it lasted.
