Follow
UK Aircraft Explored

How was the Spitfire Mk Vs iconic RollsRoyce Merlin 45 engine built? Here, we shall look at the Merlin 45 engine as fitted to early Spitfire Mk V aircraft. We shall cover the RollsRoyce Merlin’s construction, and look at its components such as Carburettor, Coolant, Fuel and Oil Pumps, the Exhaust and Generator and ignition system. This indepth story will be told using my many reworked wartime AP diagrams – recreated in colour. There’s a lot to cover, so let’s dive in!

Thanks must also be given to the following superb organisations for their kind support when Bryan Atkinson originally developed The Spitfire Mk V Explored PC CDROM back in 2005, all are listed below and are included once again in this series of videos.
